I am ready to do the GLEAM treatment to my HO layout. I would like to know what brand of metal polish is best to use and where to buy it.
Thanks,
Bill

If I remeber these threads correctly, there are a couple of types that you can use. You might be able to do a search and find the posts. There were some really good ones a few years back that talked about “gleaming” in detail.
The two best that I’ve found are Mother’s Mag Wheel Polish and Blue Magic Metal Polish, both are avalable at most auto parts stores.
I use Flitz and Simichrome. I am able to get used tubes of both from work So I don’t know where to purchase it. Our Mold Die Shop uses it to clean molds with and I snagged a few “enpty” tubes a while back. A little goes a long way.

I found Mother’s Mag Wheel Polish in Wal-Mart. Did some track 3 or so years ago - since pulled up and re-laid, never re-gleamed, still trouble-free.

My Father in Law was a Tool & Die maker, like you, he snagged some tubes of Simichrome, its awesome. ( I’ve never “gleamed” my rails on my layout though, never had the need).
Polishing the rail heads is actually the LAST step in the “gleaming” process. Here’s a good thread on the actual process which I also included before and after pics …
