Glued on coupler box covers...

I have 37 Walthers DRGW Quad hoppers that have the coupler box cover that is supposed to be glued on.

I want to convert this to a coupler box cover that can be screwed on so if I need to replace a Kadee and also just for peace of mind. Screw on will be stronger than glue on anyday.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have always glued Kadee and other draft gear boxes together (with liquid plastic cement not CA). In 40 years I’ve only had to replace a few (6 or less) of my 400 cars worth of couplers and those due to some kind of mishap. I have had to replace plenty of knuckle springs though. As lond as you’re using KDs, you don’t really have much to worry about, under normal use they’re pretty indestrucable.

You could cut out a piece of styrene the same size as the factory cover and drill a hole in it for a screw and also drill a hole in the boss of coupler base. or cut off the factory coupler box and replace it with a KD.
