Glueing CV tie strips

Hey Folks,

What should I use to glue CV tie strips to Homasote then the Rail to the tie strip? They reccomend “barge” glue but I havent been able to find any of that anywhere.

I got a point forming tool from FastTracks and made a frog with it. I am going to lay long stock rails thru the turnout for smoothness.

The frog lines up great on the tie strip so killing me not to be able to run some trains thru it.

Thanks

I will be using Gorrila glue. Tim Warris uses Pliobond in his video, but mentions that it should be a 10 minute epoxy.

I have made my first turnout, and I’d give myself a C-. How did you do?

I would give myself a C also. But the ole saying is “practice makes perfect” comes to mind.

Did you use normal rail or weathered? I got some weathered it looks nice and all but the solder really stands out on it.

Did you get one of those rail benders to make it?

I have done a lot of soldering in my time and have learned a few things.

  1. Keep the tip clean.
  2. Use the right wattage iron for the job.
  3. Use the right amount of flux.
  4. A little solder goes a long way.
  5. Practice, practice practice!
