Glueing wood

Hey all,

I am building a retaining wall using some small square wooden stock. Not sure what it is. What product do some of you use to ensure that what you glue together stays together of a long time? I am looking for a brand and product name, not some scientificy nerd words. I am not a scientist and I can’t find my fiancees Big Book of Made Up Science Words! [:)]

OK, I’ll try and keep this simple…when glueing wood, you should use wood glue (no scientific nerd words here)

try this…Elmer’s Carpenter’s glue

I was thinking Elmer’s Carpenter or Wood Glue or else Gorilla Glue. Just wondering what others were using. I have seen so many science-y epoxy words thrown around here in the past that it makes me light headed…no wait, maybe that is the fumes from the stuff!

Since you are gluing a wood retaining wall together, the elmer’s should work. In this situation, I think gorilla glue would be overkill.

Aileen’s tacky glue works fine as well.

White or Yellow wood glue (Elmer’s), use clamps or weights to hold things together until the glue sets.

Another problem with “gorilla glue” is that it expands like touch and foam

I use Elmer’s Wood Glue:

It is also referred to as yellow glue. It does a superb job of holding wood pieces together.

Care with the Gorilla glue. It make a terrible sticky mess and will not clean up with water.

You can also use gap filling super glue if you want it ready to use after gluing.

However, if you want a natural look by staining the wood, you should stain all the pieces before gluing them together, no matter what type of glue you use. If you are just going to paint it, you can wait until the parts are assembled.
