This is definitally a newbie question. My Stewart Baldwin switcher that I recently purchased comes with the grabirons, horn, etc. unattached; the directions that come with it for attaching them are OK. My question is what glue/bond do you use. I have searched other threads on this subject, and it seems the most commonly used glues are Testor’s liquid, or Ambroid. The Ambroid weld seems pretty effective and reliable, but I note that the “weld” supposedly takes in 15 seconds. Seems like this might be a bit quick, i.e. having to place it in each of the grab iron holes and then placing the grab iron in the holes–seems like if one wasn’t fast enough, the holes could be welded before you get the grab bar placed. Or, can you place the grab iron bar in first, and then place the Ambroid on the inside and it would weld with the bar already in place? Seems like that wouldn’t work very well, i.e. the weld solution couldn’t diffuse into the hole with the grab iron already displacing the space in the hole for it.
Maybe I’m overly concerned about this, but as I’ve not done one of these before, though I’d ask for you experiences/advice.
Jim
