It depends on what’s being glued to what: To add plastic nbw castings to a wooden trestle, some form of ca would probably work best. To cement wood framing members to plastic footings or a plastic girder atop wooden trestle bents, contact cement would likely provided the strongest connection, although I’d be inclined to include a mechanical connection, too, such as alignment pins.
Were I to build a “wood” trestle, I’d use strip styrene in place of the wood. Properly distressed and painted/stained, it can look even better than real wood. The advantages are quicker assembly and stronger and longer-lasting construction.

Wayne’s right. It really depends on what you’re doing. Ordinary white glue or “tacky” glue (white glue with most of the water removed) works very well on wood. It will hold styrene, too, if it’s not a “structural” bond (i.e., just attaching a detail part0. For larger surfaces, scuff up the styrene with 600 grit sandpaper to provide some tooth.
Otherwise, CA, Walther’s Goo, and hot glue will all work, as will most epoxies. About the only glue that won’t work is plastic model cement (it works by softening the plastic parts, which bond to each other as they re-harden).
