Is this GM plant one of the ones scheduled for closing as part of the “new footprint” of GM production facilities? Seems like I remember some recent extensive rail yard construction (UP and A-OK ) to facilitate auto track handling at this plant. Anyone out there up this situation? Thanks

The news did a story the other night on the last SUV to roll off the line. The story led me to believe the plant was closed. Not sure what else they make there.

Seems there was some talk to revive the old RI line from Shawnee to McAlester to provide a direct connect from this plant to the UP (ex Katy). Guess the closing wil put that to rest.

Technically the plant is idle but it is closed. Most union workers will be paid well into 2007. Many other feeder companies have laid off workers also.
OK has one of the highest workmens comp rate in the country, so naturally after things began to fall apart, GM pulled the plug on OKC.
