Go Motor Bids and Daily Hobby deal goes Belly Up!

Just got an email that this business is folding effective immediately. Web site reflects this news as well http://www.gomotorbids.com/ the Daily Deal link, still on this web site is up and running still, but I would be a bit wary of ordering anything at this time. Seems to have happened rather quickly?

It is a great shame to see anyones business dream fail, I guess it was too hard to compete with the big auction site?

Hi Simon,

All I got when I clicked the link was this message with dead links in it:

Oops… we encountered an error! We’re not sure what happened. But we’ll figure it out.

An email has been sent to the GMB Development Team so they can review the situation.

From here you may select from the following…

Thanks for your patience with us and thank you for visiting GoMotorBids.com!

I would say they eitehr have trouble with the weblinks or they are gone?

I never saw anything much on the gomotorbids.com anyway when I went to look…seemed like slim pickin’s so they may have had trouble getting listings to begin with.

ALso, the J Q Public is all after and all over the Evil Bay auction and gomotorbids was only after us selective “train heads” it seems.

I wouldn’t order on them now though…

  1. Why were your customers not given more notice about you closing the business?

This was not the original plan for closing the business. The management team was given notice of these events only hours before you have been given notice. We are truly sorry.

Very quick closure here…oh well…sites like this are not always going to succeed…HOInterchange and such will continue…

Everybody has a different comfort zone about how and where they purchase stuff. Personally I will not miss Go Motor or any similar site.

When it comes to model trains, in some 40 years, I have purchased VERY, VERY, little that was used. Just not generally interested in stuff others have messed around with - no matter how cheap.

I do watch for “New Old Stock” still pristeen in the box, but generally don’t like to buy that via the internet/mail - like to see it first.

Yes, I’m a manufacturers best friend, I buy new, I usually buy more than one of any given item (locomotives come in pairs don’t they?) and I will pay fair prices for the things I want.

I don’t know about the automotive products they sold, but gomotor has been selling a lot of model railroad stuff on ebay for at least the last year. In fact I saw some of their new listings this morning. So it appears they are still in business, just concentrating their marketing on a proven site and not wasting money running their own site.

Somewhat irrelevant now, but in my experience, most of what they sold was new rather than used. For sure they liquidated a Chicago land area hobby shop that specialized in British trains (amazing that such a thing existed) as I picked up a bunch of brand new Hornby and Bachmann Branchline models for less than half of their normal current retail.

The biggest problem, at least on the MRR side, was they never had enough stuff, what they had seemed to be the same stuff, and they never had enough bidders. Much of what they were selling would have gone for more on eBay. So there were certainly bargains to be had on new merchandise if they had what you were looking for, which was not often.

I never heard of this gomotorsbids.com until this topic…

Maybe that’s why they failed lack of public information?

.

Looks like all eBay listings have now been shut down as well?

Ads? The only ads I have ever seen on this site are for the host companies magazines. And those are at the very bottom.

I looked at one of their listings a few days ago. I just checked and all of their listings have been closed, “no longer available”. They have been selling on ebay since July, 2003

You probably have ad-blocker software (which you probably already knew you had, and are just being a b-buster) - in just posting this response I have seen ads for MTH, Branchline, Walthers Scenemaster (re-released Boley) in the right column , so there are definitely ads being served.

I applied AdBlocker on here and got the same thing…no ads on right side…I usually have it turned off for this site as I would like to see what is going on on occasion…

I find the Ads on this site to be quite useful. It was an Ad on here for Gomotorbids that mentioned the large Hornby collection they were sellling that got me onto their site in the first place.

I never pay attention to the side ads…

Still a little more publicity could have help.

As an ‘international’ user of e-Bay, I for one am not sad to see gomotorbids leave, as they refused to sell or ship to Canada, or if they did, insisted on the highest shipping fees available. I don’t know what happened to free trade, but I certainly don’t think Canada is that difficult to deal with. Luckily, I do find & deal with mature sellers who have no xenophobia when it comes to dealing with honest buyers.
