Goderich Tornado

I’m just wondering if anybody on these forums were affected by the tornado that hit
Goderich Ontario Sunday afternoon. The people of Goderich are in my prayers.

My wife and I drove through Goderich (pronounced God-rich; the “e” being silent) a week ago yesterday on our way home from Kincardine; 5 days before the tornado hit the downtown area. Despite the damage and the one death, I had to smile at the mindset of the citizens of Goderich. As soon as the storm had passed, the entire city was out with chainsaws in hand - clearing away the debris.

Tom

My wife has family up there so we drove the truck up Monday with my generator and my chainsaw because they don’t expect HYDRO for at least a week. Ended up leaving the truck so they can haul wood back to the farm and stayed for a few hours cutting trees. You can’t imagine the destruction. It will take month’s if not a year to get back to normal up there. [sigh]

This has turned out to be quite a week.

Severe thunderstorms with hail on Saturday.

Tornado warning (didn’t ever actually touch down, but went right over us) Sunday.

Earthquake Tuesday.

Now Saturday night and Sunday, it looks like we’re going to get smacked but good by Hurricane Irene.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by these events. And, naturally, hoping my luck hasn’t run out with a hurricane a-comin’

Hello,

I feel for everyone up Goderich, it is truly horrific when one hears that a Tornado went through an area where one has family living as well. Happened to me a couple of years ago with a Tornado in Durham.

I am curious, did the Tornado also hit the repair shops from the GEXR? I also believe that the head office for the GEXR is in Goderich, is it still in tact as well?

Thank you

Frank

Th GEXR head office is in either Stratford or Kitchener, I believe. As for the repair shops, I’m not 100% sure but I think they might be just outside the most damaged zone. I live about an hour away but I won’t be going near for at least a month. Let them try to get back to normal. I don’t need to know that badly.
