Golden Spike NHS hosts 30th Railroader's Festival August 12th

This annual event will start with the arrival under steam of the Juptier and 119 from the engine house starting at 9:30 am. The volunteers and staff have been working at a feverish pace to get ready. I spent Tuesday polishing driver spokes on both engines, while the Jupiter had a boiler wash. The Civilian Conservation Corp has polished up the hand car and both staff and voluteers had their heads under the covers of the Fairmont speeder – trying to get the “hit and miss” engine to hit more than it misses. There will be no entrance fee to the site for this special day. Golden Spike is 32 miles west of Brigham City, Ut. You would think that the congress in 1869 could have picked a more accessible place!
