Gone and done it now...

Put in a reserve for one of the new PCM Reading T-1’s. My guy is pricing them under $300, which is a darn good deal considering the $399 list price. First time I ever paid more than $60 for a loco… but I’m not about to wait it out and hope they have an overstock fire sale in a year or so - I think they learned their lesson on overproduction and these units are going to be in short supply. If I wait, the only one available will be the Chessie Steam Special - and I’m running a railroad, not a circus. I want the in-service units to pull my freights.
Should be awesome - especially as my father-in-law is also getting one. Double-heading sound equipped steam locos… wow!

If you and your dad both get one and you double head, you two going to fight to see which direction the train is going to go? Seems like trouble to me.

That sure does sound like fun Randy. Remember, you can’t take it with you.

Take deep breaths, Randy. Ya hafta pay if yas wanna play, right?[:D] I’m happy for you.

Randy,

Just one question: What must I do to get my F-I-L to do likewise?[:D][(-D]

I placed an order for a undecorated unit some time ago.

I must mention that I love the Chessie but that engine and Chessie is kinda something best left to history.

I forsee a really large demand for this engine and hope that it is one of the good ones of this year.

I am also eyeing the Decapod and B&O Pacific from the same manufactor. Whooee someone get me smelling salts and bromo before I faint.

Randy,

Were you able to order different road numbers for your and your dad’s T-1?

Tom

They are cool. What beasts. Didn’t I see one up at Steamtown? I might be confused.

And pop-in-law is also getting one? What a sight and sound that double header will be! The link to your railroad did not work … will these engines be dragging anthracite?

Enjoy it.

Jim

Yes Steamtown has one, sadly in deplorable condition. The web site shoudl work again, server is acting up.

Ken - I dunno, but my father-in-law is the one with all the cool toys right now - he has a BLI M1a, a GG1, and an Atlas Trainmaster. He’s been doing this stuff for a LONG time now, and been selling off a lot of his old stuff on ebay to make way for the new one - he gets more for old Walthers kits than the same car in their new RTR form cost - and the new ones are WAY more detailed - we’re talking the old Walthers kits with the wood roof and tinplate sides. He’s thinking about a BLI PRR T1 as well - and selling his Bowser. He has a Daiyung brass RDG T-1, but that’s hitting eBay soon too, to pay for the PCM. And he has other mediocre stuff that sells well too - like the $15 he got for an undec Athearn F7 shell - which Atheran will happily sell you brand new for $8. I’ve gotten some good sells too, I just never had the amount of stuff to sell that he does.
I’m just here to lay track and wire it up.[:D]

Tom: Yeah, they have 2 road numbers in the ‘in-service’ scheme. 2111 and 2113 - conveniently two that got leased to the PRR, so PRR modellers can buy one too.

Chip - he tries to pull the wrong way, I’ll just steal his loco with my throttle and take over. [:D]

I love my DT400, too.

Oh boy! Randy, you have just been bitten by the sound bug and there is no turning back…but who would want to.

Have fun! [:D][:D]

REX

IF they end up having a huge sale on them in a year you should buy one . then you can average the cost of the two units and still get a really good deal out of it [:)]

Good idea, but they only are making 2 in the numbers we want, and we’ll already have both. Unfortunately the non-sound ones are going to have the same numbers, unlike what Atlas did with the Trainmasters. Plus the $100 price differential between sound and non-sound translates into an only $60 difference from my guy - so buying non-sound is pretty foolish. Although I’d consider 2102 in the Ramble scheme - I only hope Andy Mueller and crew get her running again in my lifetime.
