Good, Cheaper Airbrush?

Anyone know of a good, cheaper airbrush that is good quality? Preferably <$100

I’ve been using the same Paasche H for decades and am very pleased with it. While not a pro model, it does everything that I need it to do.

Yes, but I accidentally wrote this in the Prototype Information section.

Okay…don’t laugh. I use a $30 special from Harbor Freight. It’s a double action internal mix that comes with a 6’ braided hose, 1 jar with fittings, and several other fittings for compressors. Been using it for almost 3 years and I can’t complain. Use it with a little, regulated pup compressor (about 1/2 gal tank). So far I’ve painted over 30 locos, at least twice that in cars, and a large area of scenery base.

Ditto for me on that reply …

I’ve used a Badger 350 for years. Good e results, easy cleanup.

I use the Harbor Freight Tools single action and dual action airbrushes. The single action airbrush is a virtual clone of the Badger 350 and works quite well. The dual action is a very nice, all metal unit that also works quite well. As long as I keep them squeeky clean, they produce great painting results. The single action airbrush is regularly priced around $10 (I got mine on sale for $6 as few years ago). The dual action airbrush is regularly priced around $20 (I got mine on sale for $15). The dual action airbrush is also offered in a set that includes a compressor for under $100. I haven’t looked at this set, as I already own a large compressor, so I can’t comment on the quality of the compressor. Another available set includes several of the dual action airbrushes.

Having never owned or used an airbrush before, I figured the single action unit for $6 was worth the gamble. I use it for all of my general airbrush painting. Now I don’t see any reason to pay more for a different brand airbrush as the HFT unit works great. Besides, when I finally break it, I can replace it for another $10. Again, having never used a dual action airbrush, I figured the $15 price was worth the gamble. I was signing my name in 1/16" wide strokes the very first time I used this airbrush. It is great for fine detail work. A lot of people only swear at these airbrushes but I swear by them!

I also have both single and dual air brushes from HF and can not complain at all.

Watch your local news paper for the 40% off any one item at Michaels craft store. You can pick up a Badger or Iwata for a really good price.

Hi. If you are interested I have these two airbrushes that I’ll NEVER use. Shoot me a PM and we can talk. I’m thinking shipping cost plus something for going to PO? Let me know.

Hope this helps.

Iwata Neo. I don’t own one but it’s received great reviews. It’s in the $60.00 range

Paasche VL. It’s a dual action airbrush, internal mix. I’ve used one for 25yrs. Works great easy to clean. All over e-bay for around $50 or less. Go to someplace like Meijers and get a cheap air compressor with a regulator (I got mine on sale for $39) get a water trap and your good to go.
