Well, as I look out the window, we have had about 6 inches of snow and much more further north. Now at some point in time I will have to blow out the drive - my least favorite job - so until then it will be a great day to work on the layout. That’s one good thing about a Michigan winter.
And since there’s no place to go…let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
HI,
I grew up in Chicago, went thru my share of blizzards and sub zero cold, until I left in 1977.
Since that time, the most snow I have had at the house was about 1 inch in 1989. I have seen a few dustings, but that 1 inch is still the record for my time here.
It took me 20 years to throw away my snow shovel - I could just not part with it…
We have about 6 inches now but it is still coming down. I might phone in sick and stay home today.
I live in the south suburbs of Chicago.
I bought a brand new snow blower at the beginning of November, thereby ensuring that we would get no measurable snow all winter.
I have yet to use it even once.

Mounted the 5’ snowblower on the tractor yesterday, to reduce the risk of much snow. Must have done something wrong, There is about 6" of new light fluffy snow and the promise of another foot or more. Still sounds better than the folks in my old stomping grounds in SE MA, where they are calling for several feet of heavy wet stuff.
No school today, so no bus to drive. After a few errands, think I’ll head downstairs and see about finishing (working on) the facia and plexiglass safety fence.
Will keep the tractor at the ready and probably make a pass through the yard later. I’ll do a full job once it stops falling. Shouldn’t take long, so SHOULD get some rr work done.
EDIT: Forgot this doesn’t say where we are anymore - Central VT
Have fun (in the snow or trainroom),
Richard
Well being in CT, I’m in the sweet spot for snow today and tomorrow. Expecting 2 feet. 6" is just a light dusting. Didn’t go to work today so I’ll spend most of the weekend working on the layout. All is fun and games until I have to crank up the snowblower and clear off a very long long driveway. Thanks goodness its a 10 horse.
Here in Eastern Canadaland we are expecting a visit from New England (is Maine in New England?) of 30 inches of snow and 60-70 mph winds,( for hosers that’s 77cm. and 96km/h) won’t be going anywhere for a couple of days, may start on a wooden kit.
It has been snowing here in Mid-Coast Maine for more than 5 hours. When I walked the dog abour 1-1/2 hours ago (10AM EST), there was more than 6" on the ground and the real storn has not started yet. This evening into tomorrow they are saying as much as 2 feet of snow, hurricane force wind gusts, and storm surge due astronomical high tides. Seems a good day to retire to the basement and work on the layout; the generator will keep the lights on.
Here in So. New Hampshire, we are expecting 24" +: Snow thrower ready to go, check. Cars parked in line next to driveway for clear snow throwing, check. Do some work downstairs on layout for the rest of the afternoon: oh yeah!
For those in the line of fire of the storm, called “Nemo”, stay safe!

Just listeded to the noontime weather report. They are expecting snow rates of 3" to 3-1/2" per hour which is very heavy and even thundersnow - yes, a severe snowstorm can produce lightning and thunder!

tatans - yes we export this weather from Maine to Eastern Canada [swg]
You guy’s are so lucky getting all that snow giving you extra layout time. Yesterday I was out in my T shirt only. I put two new batteries in the truck and serviced the John Deere as the crocuses and tulips are poking their heads up.
Back in 1959 my Dad moved us from Winnipeg out to the West Coast. What was he thinking! After all he was a train guy.[swg]
Would it have been easier to wear shorts also[:D]
here in toronto my back is allready sore and the plow just filled the end of the driveway again. rambo1…
Im in Hamilton rambo and I feel EXACTLY the same. I know for sure the plow is coming again it’s juts a matter of tonight or tomorrow. The blowing snow has my driveway covered again, oh well it can wait until the morning. After that it will be layout time for sure. Stay safe all you guys out east.
