Good Early Conrail History?

[?]

After having enjoyed reading, “The Wreck Of The Penn Central” so much (great, great book - I had trouble putting it down much of the time), does anyone have a suggestion on a good narrative history of Conrail? I’d like to read the sequel to the story of the PC. Picture books, like Morning Sun are great, but they don’t offer the details that I’m looking for.

Any ideas?

closest i can think of is a pair of articles in Trains in 1986…2 part story on the 10 year history of the company…was very informitve on traffic corridors and who was in charge

Rush Loving Jr’s The Men Who Loved Trains is a fascinating look inside the politics of the PC merger, it’s bankruptcy, the start up and early years of Conrail, and it’s eventual break up.

It’s a great read, and having lived through most of the events, very accurate

Thanks Nick… that’s the book I’ll try to get.
