A few weeks ago someone posted a thread concerning an ebay seller who advertised DPM kits approximately 20 percent below list. He checked the Walthers catalog and discovered that the ebay price listed was exactly the MSRP as listed in the 2005 Walthers catalog. A quick check showed that DPM prices have increased quite a bit since the 2005 catalog came out and that the ebay seller was selling his at about 20 percent less than the prices listed on Walthers.com.
I purchased 4 kits from this seller. He charged me $5.50 postage and handling. I got the box today (those DPM Hotel kits sure are heavier than you’d thing!). Guess what? The postage stamp on the box said $7.70. This seller ate the price of the box, the packing material and a bit on the postage. On top of that - his price was lower than Walthers, internettrains.com and discounttrainsonline.com. He’s also a very friendly person (I emailed him my concern when I first read the post decribed above). You better believe I’m buying from him again!
There are some mighty fine folks out there. Sometimes you just have to dig a bit.
I doubt it - I’m sure he’d love to have some business drummed up lol. I don’t have it handy - it’s something like bwbolger - his ebay shop is paradise city depot. If I’m wrong do a search for “DPM.” He’s got the most listed. One of his listings a six kit lot with free shipping. I might be making a mistake if y’all buy him out before I"m ready to purchase again - but oh well. With all the posts about questionable sellers - I thought it is only right to post about one that I think is above board and did right by me.
I buy from this guy all the time and I have always gotten a good deal from him, not to mention he’ll take special requests too and still come back with a good price.
Just give him your emial address and wait, he sends out flyers about 3-4 times a month or whenever he gets a huge lot in.
Yes Dave, you’re right. There are some good dealers out there on ebay, but they’re getting harder and harder to find… I myself have had to eat the extra shipping charges on items I’ve sold that I underestimated the shipping on, so I know how that is from a sellers point of view. I also have some favorite sellers that I’ll gather up and list real soon for those that might be interested in giving them a try.
Great idea. Would love to see a thread concerning ebay standouts. I’ve been lucky, after many many transactions the vast majority of sellers I’ve dealtt with have been straight up folks. While I think the day of the super ebay bargain is gone (there are still some out there) some good deals are still available as well as some hard to find stuff. Lots of the sellers, at least in the MRR area, seem to be brick and mortar shops extending their market and I think that’s great if it helps them keep their doors open.
