just tried the twist method of roof removal on a heavyweight. Worked like a charm, no broken tabs. supprised Walthers does not have this method in it’s instructions
Yes I agree with you this is why I’m forced to switch to Rapido regardless of the road names.
Have you tried the twist-technique…

The Athearn Genesis Coach is a correct 77’ lightweight Southern Pacific/Texas and New Orleans Coach, available in both smoothside and fluted configuration, with very nice interiors and an excellent track powered lighting system that includes capacitor(s) to allow lights to stay on once the train has stopped, and to prevent any flickering (except the first time you use them) during operation. Being only 77’ it is more tolerant of tight curves, but I still recommend 24" radius. They are fantastic cars that roll well, and likely went “just about” everywhere (west) in real life.
I do not use Rapido or Walthers cars due to past issues with them. Also had derailment problems with BLI CZ cars.
Exception: the new Walthers UP lighweight series rolls very well, but given the past issues I experienced with Walthers cars, I would not attempt to light them. I do have one Imperial Series UP sleeper, and it is a indeed a very nice car.
Otherwise, I’m sticking with Athearn Genesis and MTH passenger cars.

I have Walthers smooth side long passenger cars for the N&W and three heavyweights from Walthers in NYC livery. I love 'em. I have three Rapido CPR smooth side cars waiting for a Sunset Selkirk to pull them, but… I have towed them behind the TH&B Hudson, and they perform “wary, wary nicely” as Mr.Chekov would say.

Yep! I love’em. I have eleven CPR Rapido coaches that I am pulling behind my BLI C&O 2-10-4 that’s on lease while waiting for my Sunset Models Selkirk. Come on Crandell let’s storm the gates of Sunset. We’re getting to old to wait much longer.[oX)]

Yep, I’ve popped a tab or two off of Walthers cars as well. Here’s a hint: You don’t need all of them. It’d be nice, but one or two dn’t hurt anything. The fun part is trying to tak the walls off so you can paint them. Those tabs will break PDQ.
