Where is the cheapest price you have seen for this locomotives
With or without sound, i was palnning on getting all UP heritage models plus the dream scheme es44dc in Santa fe?
I have reserved all of the Heritage models, but the price is not great. The discount on these is very short and don’t expect to get any major discount. I have seen 265 to 275 for the Heritage sound models, but no deep discount is available.

I figured they’d be discounted 35% at my LHS like all engines are, but the people here told me i couldn’t get one for $170 (which is about 35% off m.s.r.p.)
I figure any diesel locomotive over $50.00 is over priced. And any steam locomovie over $100.00 (due to their extra complexity and need for properly jeweled running gear) is as well. I will spot $175 for articulateds.
Thats my line and thats what I stick to.

Not all manufacturer’s discount equally. My LHS told me that Overland’s mark-up is not as high as other manufacturers. Consequently, the possible discount is also going to be less.
HO scale? i think Athearn RTR’s are a steal for $65- I’d pay $120 for a KATO but i don’t think it’d run on my 18" curves- i don’t think you can get a good (new) engine unless you spend more $50-$150 (with a few exceptions) P2K’s gp38-2’s are at least $70

All locomotives need to do is move cars down the track. That can easily be handled for less than $50.00 as Bachmann’s upgraded line with DCC demonstrates ($50.00 List price for DCC equiped F units and GPS)

I know there was an employee discount for the Heritage units, but I doubt that helps you. I doubt you’ll be able to get them much under $200.
yes and some do it better than others- some will pull your house down the road, some won’t pull one car, some are dead silent, some are noisy. You be your own judge but i don’t think BACHMANN is high quality. What do they have for a driveline? If you want affoardable check out Walthers Trainline- at least they have flywheels, all-wheel drive, and all wheel elec. pick-up (i’m not saying BACHMANN doesn’t) -have you ever even bought a KATO, Atlas, P2K, or Athearn? (don’t get the wrong idea- i’m not saying regular bachmann is junk)

The lowest internet price that I have seen is $269.00 for the sound models. dingoix…sorry, there is no way that you will be getting one of these models for less than 200.00!

I havn’t ever bought a kato. To high priced and I have long felt that their paint jobs arn’t the best.
As for Atlas Yes. I own two. GP-7s. I admit I paid way to much for them But they were in a paint scheme that I desparatly wanted and since I know atlas locos sell insanely fast, I wasn’t about to try my luck with E-bay. So I called up Toy Train heaven and ordered them at about $75.00 each. (I can’t remember the exact price) I find them to high quality locomotives and heartily reccomend them But they aren;t worth the $75.00 sale price or the $110 or what ever it was list price.
I own alot of Proto-2000 locomotives. To count I own 4 GP-9s 2 GP 18s a GP 30 amd Two SD60s all the GPs I paid about $30 for. and I SDs came to about $45. Granted these are “sale” prices. But paying more than $50.00 for these engines is obsurd. They aren;t the $120.00 list price that is on thes models.
And Athearn. Oh Sweet Athearn. I would estimate that 2/3s of my locomotive roster is Athearn. All of them were blue box kits and all of them were aquired in the $25-35 dollar range. I think I got two dash 9s that I paid $45 for. Again all of them are are under $50.00
Now Athearn is going nuts. Their RTR isn worth what htey are charging. Plus I have several athearn RTR pieces which were given to me. And all of them have been defective. Including a BN AB set of F-7s and they want $450.00 for their new big boy.
As far as I feel. The whole scene lately has just gone nuts. The only people making any effort to run a business honestly at all are the DCC suppliers and I feel thats largly due to the fact that most DCC companies are ran by hobbyists themselvs and are working to better the hobby. And $100.00 sound decoders and stuff I can see how that price is justified because I know R&D isn’t cheap. and to constantly be raising the bar
I read the mark up is so short to the dealers that the thirty dollars off the list is just about the most you will get.
Brian Marsh could have listed them for 350 and given thirty or forty percent off, but we would be paying much the same. Time will tell, but I believe they will be nice and hopfully worth the money.
The real question is this:::: Why are they importing brass models of the same units that list for $970 or so discounted to $750???
I am sure they will sell a few, but not for me any longer.
James, I see what you were saying. But I will happily pay $90 for an Atlas. I do think Atlas is worth every penny. And my LHS has a bunch of old Athearn b-b’s NIB for $22 ea. and i plan on buying most of them. I love the b-b. I don’t think they’re loud if they are well lubricated. I see RTR’s for $65 and while not a steal it’s a low price for a decent engine.
I don’t want to pay more than $70 for a P2K (the p2K ALCO PA at trainworld for $30 looks good) – Since it doesn’t look like I can get a Tower55 ES44 for under $200 I will abandon the idea. $200 would buy about 8 of the b-b’s at the LHS[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]
well i am going to buy all of the tower 55 models up heritage locos, and they better be darn good for the price too!!!
