I really like the Williams GG-1 I bought last year. It can pull a huge number of cars easily. I would like to get another relatively inexpensive deisel or electric engine to pull a long consist of operating cars on a kid’s layout (027). Road name and features are not real important, but it has to be compact enough to make it through a girder bridge. (The GG-1 is too tall with its pantograph extended.) Any recommendations? Should I stick with Williams?
YES>>>>>>> A GP9 would be a good 027 engine.
All of the Williams engines are good pullers - the GP-9, F-3, F-7 or small Hudson. The Berkshire is too big to make it through 027 switches.
My Williams GP9 is a very strong puller.
i have a williams and its amazing

Williams engines are great pullers, and if you check out their catalog (more like a flyer), you’ll have no shortage of roadnames to choose from.
I would also consider an MTH docksider engine for your O-27 layout. Good puller, smokes up a storm, and nice detail (but not so much that little hands can snap things off).
Good luck.
