I’ll be visiting my son and his family in Abilene, TX (Dyess AFB) and would like to know if there are some good locations for train watching nearby.

BNSF and UP both traverse Abilene, you shouldnt have any problems watching trains there…Depending on the day of the week it may be heavy or it may be light…I have not been to Abilene in some time so I can’t tell you where to go as far as yards, main line are etc…Good hunting…Danny
I thought I read that BNSF mostly gave up trying to use those rights on UP between Ft Worth and Sweetwater.
You should be able to see about twice as many trains if you go 40 miles west to Tecific, just east of Sweetwater.

I saw a bnsf container stack train come in from there one day last week,Wed,Thur. If they have given it up I havent heard about it…As far as I know the QALBA is still using it…UP for sure is running …there is a restored T&P depot there amoung other cowboy museums and the like…Enjoy your stay…Danny
Thanks for the input!
