Hi!
As I wrote on an earlier post, I’m fixin to start putting in the scenery and details on my postwar HO generic Santa Fe (with a touch of the IC) layout. My concern in this post is signals & crossing gates.
From what I have researched, it seems that these HO details come in two forms - cheap, and expensive. While at some point - which may never happen - I would want to install operating signals/gates, at this point I am looking for reasonably priced items that give reasonable detail.
I did have several of the Bachmann non operating block signals that I painted the appropriate ATSF colors and frankly they don’t look too bad. But obviously I am looking for whatever else is out there that fits my layout - and budget.
Any suggestions???
Thank you!
Signals can get expensive quite fast! I use the signals and electronics from South Bend Signal. They have a good selection and the price is good. The Tomar and NJ Int signals are very nice, but atre rather expensive.

Thanks for the link, if Im reading the catalog right, its $84.95 for everything you need for one crossing with operating gate less tortoise or other motor. Also it doesnt include bell sounds either. So, by the time you add a tortise machine and bell, your looking at over $100 per crossing.
Yep. [:'(]
I used NJ International gates and lights ($50) Ron Paisleys crossing module ($26) then added a Tortoise ($15) and a bell circuit ($25). It all adds up but it sure is really neat when you see it working.
I only have one crossing this way and I am not going to do another because having multiple working and sounding crossings will get real annoying really fast.
