Google Earth Picture

Guys, I know that this is a bit off of the subject but I was checking out this near by train and saw these orange marks on the ground. I think they are fires but I’m not sure. If you want to try and find them just follow the tracks out of Bakersfield towards the Loop.

What I think you have are containment “hogs” to contain a spill of a “hazardous” liquid.

I figured that they weren’t fires or there would be smoke. So I don’t know.

Search for “35 19 40.35 -118 44 27.92” at maps.google.com for a closer look.

From the imagery it’s pretty clear that it’s related to livestock somehow. Looks like cattle are all over. Maybe it’s some kind of feed trough or something? It looks like they let them sit in place for a while and then move them - that could explain why some parts are orange and others are soil colored.

Right under your pushpin is an orderly formation of 8 circles of whatever that orange stuff is, which tells me it was put there. It looks like something that was dumped/spread on the ground, or possibly showing through from beneath the surface. The dark speckles suggest that plants may be growing on it. Most of the trails of the stuff appear to be 1and a half times as wide as the railcars on the tracks. My guess if some kind of clay or gravel. Certainly is puzzling though. Perhaps someone from Bakersfield can solve the mystery.

Thats pretty friggin wierd!

OK, I can’t explain the orange color, but it looks very much like maybe hay was dumped from an unloader as the tractor drove along. The darker traces would be spots where it was dumped earlier. Couldn’t get enough resolution, but I think those specks may well be the cows mentioned earlier.

Looking at a wider view shows many more such phenomenon.

It sure looks to me, like grain poured on the ground to feed cattle.

I certainly hope so- there sure isn’t anything else edible in those fields!

It’s the little tray from under the refrigerator that should be dumped and cleaned once in awhile…

Looks like flex pipe for either drainage or telecommunications

This almost makes me want to take a drive out there and see what the hell it is. But then again, Gas is over $3 here in Cali so forget that.

Come’on guys I need to know so that I can model it on my layout!!! [(-D]

Toxic waste dump.

Aliens, what else? You know, like crop circles.[alien][:-,]

Agent orange. [:P]

Just Kidding.

It does look like cattle feeding, but I dont know why the grain would be orange like that.

Hmm… Here is a b/w TerraServer image of the same place from back in 1995. Interesting subtle changes…
