Is Google SketchUp a good “replacement” for CAD models? Has anyone here used it? If so do you like it?
Never heard of it until now. Went out to have a look at it and it looks like something worthwhile (possibly.) I’m going to play with it this weekend, the FREE version that is, not so sure I want to spend $400 for the full up version.
I think it’s one of google’s many new programs.
Same with me-why not, it’s free. I was just wondering what you guys thought.
I use it for basic designs and putting them togehter to see how they look. Also to build templates.

I used it when I built my large building (42" x 24"). It helped to determine basic proportions.
The building did change a bit during construction, but the basic shape is the same.
What template do you use?
I’ve used the free version and imported pictures of buildings I want to get dimensions on. All you need is one dimension or eyeball the size of a person and you can get very close.
