Got a Hill and need help

Hi Guys I could use some input, I have this space in the back of a rockcut that is far enough back that I would like to just put something there to say hey theres a bridge croosing to the back there. These are a few ideas I’ve been struugling with. Under the bridge is the railtrack and the level area where you see buildings is probably close to 3 foot reach and probably 50 inches high so obviously I’m working off my step latter to get this done so I can get my bridges back in and work on the forward portion. I know that only I can decide but I’ve been playing with this for what seems like weeks. I’m also thinking perhaps just maybe 2-3 small shacks/houses and a foot trail to each with parking centralized. Can really use some ideas on this. Also bridge has been moved to right as in the first picture. I can also take a pic backed away if you’s think it will help.

Thanks in advance

Ok decided I better go downstairs and take a pic that shows overall a bit better. The two two story building on the left green and red won’t be staying there there just sitting there , wicked wandas will be sitting right where the green and red buildings are. from the corner of bench work it is actually just over 36 inches back and almost 60 inches high to the level area in front of the buildings.

Trees. Buildings don’t live on cliffs…

Buildings do “live on cliffs…”

A little cabin up there surrounded by trees would look good. Businesses, stores without road access don’t make sense or look right.

How about an abandoned mine of some kind?

Too populated. May be just one or two buildings would be better for such a remote spot.

Or change scale to force perspective, use n buildings there instead ofho.

Come on guys, quit with the critical comments!
Houses certainly could be built in the location shown and access to them could come from a place not visible from our vantage point. Maybe the stores/businesses are out of place, could you replace with another house or a mine as someone else suggested? Could you build up the abutment on this side of the bridge and is that a vehicle bridge; or, a pedestrian bridge?
You have the buildings nicely laid out and I can see you understand that all vertical lines of the buildings need to be perfectly aligned.
I think what you’ve done, looks very realistic, great job!
Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

Some good suggestions guys. Yes it is a vehicle bridge and there is a road going up to the bridge coming up the right side of tunnel. I have a timmerman mine and tipple but it would need a track and with the elevation being much higher than the track in the rock cut I don’t think that would work.

As for building on cliffs ,I’ve been to Italy on four occasions and.was amazed how entire towns are built ontop of mountains and on cliff edges. The abutment on this side of the bridge will be built up with scenery and the wicked Wanda’s on the left end. I have a tie hackers shack and shed I built but I’m thinking it would be too small too far back. But I think less is more may be the way to go.

Keep the ideas coming guys.

That area is “crying” for some sort of “focal point”, however as others mention, don’t overdo it. The foot/ light traffic bridge works, however if you can rework to have an access road swing around to the right and off into the backdrop it would be more plausible for the few buildings. It is a remote spot and if not just treed or a cabin, you could try to use the area as a base logging, staging area for a small outfit. This would assume that the proposed access road could be done to handle equipment. Sheds/ garage, office, equipment yard and a few small cabins would seem to fit. Continue a rock cut off to the right of the bridge to allow more of a footprint to work with. Looks like a lower track w/ bridge/ abutment, not sure if river/ stream is running off to the backdrop, access road can swing around and follow the river. Scenery/ trees can be used to hide any unrealistic turns or road position. BTW, nicely done topography and scenery so far.

Sometimes thy die on cliffs…

ROAR

Excellent suggestions guys, I need to see what I have for a medium sized structure, not too bright and not too small and I’m thinking a single building mabe with an old shed and thinking if I can even put a very small creek going from left to right showing no beginning and ending behind some trees and rocks. I think the bridge helps with the areas character and shows access with a 90 degree corner coming off the bridge on the hill side and road then descends down a rather trechoreous road to lower level, all dirt roads of course .That is a scarey looking cliff Roar.

That is a great space. How about N scale for forced perspective. I have a couple and my club just did one. They look great and really ad to the feel. An N scale Wicked Wandas would be great.

Good suggestion Art for the N scale ,not sure if my worn eyes could work in N scale. I already built the HO Wicked Wandas.

My 79 yr old eyes did OK with time and a good magnifyer. I even build a Z scale Victorian house for my cliff scene. It won’t win a merit award, but then I won’t let a judge within 4 feet of it and it looks great.

Art that is amazing your messing with those teenie tiny scales. I have the magnifier and they work good but when I take them off my eyes seem worse. Good for you Art I’m turning 53 next week and hope to be doing what your doing at 79.

Hey guys I’m back after trying afew things, I tried the tie hackers build and it looked too small up on the hill. I then came across this set of buildings that could be aranged in different ways and the ground could be built up and trees and groundfall with a fence or two etc. I took photos with the buildings setup in different positions, can I get some yays or nays and yays which position would be the most charcter? Don’t be shy, be honest I can take it. Appreciate the input.
Thanks

Personally that looks more believeable, especially the first 2 pics. There’s just not enough realestate for 4 or 5 buildings there. The tall building looks like a tower?

Going all the way back to the first photo, board up some upstairs windows, weather the !!! out of the paint, put a suggestion of a timber headframe among the trees. Then, on the near side of the bridge, a timber goalpost, with a hanging sign - Fillintheblank ghost town - and a ticket booth. Parking on the flat this side of the bridge.

Inspired by the ghost town of Calico, CA - which has active shops.

Thanks, yes it does look like a tower.

I like the way you think Chuck.
