Got my Genesis F3A today...

…and it’s the best detailed F-unit I’ve seen in my entire life! It looks more realistic than the real thing! Well, maybe not, but it’s still excellent![:D][:D][:D]

I also found out what a MARS light is. When I ran the engine forward, I was disappointed because I thought one of the light bulbs didn’t work, but then I ran it in reverse, and a small red light came on.[:D]

The only problem is the cab interior’s dashboard is too far inside of the engine. Oh, well. Nothing’s perfect, except maybe the shell on this thing![:D] It runs really smooth and quiet, too.[:D][:D][:D] If I could afford it, I’d get 20 more![:D][:D][:D]

Darth,
I’m not sure why Athearn hasn’t done something yet about the misplaced interior. It’s been irritating people for a long time. I hear it’s an easy fix. Just pull things apart and do a couple of chops at the interior casting so that seats into the proper location. Note that I haven’t gotten around to trying this with mine yet, so YMMV.

i’m happy your happy… i’ve never had problems with genesis, i had a BNSF SD75 from the first run and it was great but then again i’ve only had one so yeah, i regret selling that 75 now, i only did because i changed eras, but i changed back again…

Congratulations.

The Genesis F units are a work of art with the Highliner body shells. Do you plan on installing sound?

BTW: How does it run? Is it quiet and can it crawl at ultra-low speeds? I’m asking because recently a poster commented that the drive was not that good. Yet, I’ve heard from other modelers that the drive is decent.

DSF, can we have a full review like you usually post?

Congrats. Yes! the Highliner shells are the absolute best out there. I have 3
awaiting shop time to become a GN passenger set. I just finished upgrading
the detail on my A/B set of Genesis F3s, as a matter of fact. I am quite
satisfied with the drives. They are pretty smooth, though I notice a ‘cogging’
at extremely slow speeds, which I can live with. Not quite as silky smooth
as that all-time standard-the Stewart/Kato F drives, but IMHO, entirely
satisfactory. I know you’ll enjoy your new locomotive, I do mine.

It’s definately a work of art. I’m impressed with it![:D] I won’t be installing sound. I like the sound of the engine running without extra sound effects, and I also save about $80.[:D]

It runs very smoothly and quietly, and I got it to go 9 inches at only 3 scale MPH at only around 3 minutes break-in time.[:D]

I’ll try to post a full review tomorrow, for those of you who want to know more about them.[:D]

Great. I’d like a review. Both Model Railroader and Model Railroad News have reviewed the Genesis F-units recently. But they reviewed the models w/ sound.

I e-mailed Athearn to see if they planned to produce them in CGW and they said it was already on their list of possible roadnames[swg]. I will certainly get some of them if they offer them in CGW[swg]

I hope they don’t do them soon, I can’t afford to buy any thing at the moment.

You want one in CGW? I might not even be able to get one this year. I just hope they produce one.

Me too, I hope it the early scheme,Like this.

I’d like it to be in that early scheme too, but it would look a little out of place on my 1968 layout. I’ll get a few no matter what scheme they’re in, but the early scheme would be nice since nobody has offered them in that scheme before.

You know, your point about just hearing the little locos run is a good one. There are times when I just want to hear the whirrrrrrr, clickty-clack. And when I need steam sound, there is nothing better than the Buffalo History Works “Living with Steam” CD. http://www.buffalohistoryworks.com/
