Got there mostly by train, but where am I?

Took a local train south from Brussels and got off after about half-an-hour. Walked from the depot for about 1.5 miles to the town (what, no bus service? this is Europe after all!), then took a bus ride north for about 20 minutes. Then walked west for about three-quarters of a mile, to this place. So, where was “this place”?

HInt: it is a place of significant historical importance.

It’s the Waterloo Monument. http://www.trabel.com/waterloo/waterloo.htm

Bingo!

And despite being a highly-urbanized country, almost everyone drives to it! This is Europe? (We could have taken a bus and just walked the last leg, but where is the fun in that?)
