got to catch some hometown trains today

hey,

the city i live in of new london the jucntion of the former GBW & CNW. then soon the CNW was FRV & the GBW was part of that then the wc came in & operated as Faox valley western even though it was all named as wisconsin central. some breif history on the GBW & CNW in NL,

the GBW mainline from Green bay to east winona passed through NL & ran abt 20 trains a day from ab the 1950’s to 1993. when it was merged in WC trains only came through twice a week & CN still uses that pracitce. the CNW mainline from FDL to the spur off in oshkosh to hortonville where it connected w/ the track to appleton then to eland, the track form oshkosh into the fox cities then onto the track to eland. they ran abt 50 trains both ways until the 1980’s when the abandoned the line from new london to eland none if it is left any more. then when itel bought CNW they abandoned the New London appleton line so then the thre FRV operated over sister GBW to NL to serve cusomers on the former CNW. then in 93 wc bought GBW &FRV. in 2001 before wc was bought out they re openedthe new london appleton line & abandonedthe new lond green bay line. now it operates as appleton - manawa via new london. & under the new london sub. its common to see them tuesday nights & saturday day. i saw them a few times on saturdays but never on tuesdays. any i saw 2 WC service trcks only 1 pic they had the bigger one that isa semi type & cna ride on rails & the pic i got the train CN 9530 gp 40-2.

heres the pics

…Very nice pictures…Beautiful blue sky and summer day. And very visible “stick” rail.

Neat to see a WC hirail truck still running around today.

BTW, I think you are a little off in the traffic counts on your history. The GBW didn’t run 20 trains a day over the entire railroad, including yard switchers, so there wouldn’t have been that many train through New London, that’s for sure. I’m pretty sure there would have been only two trains a day through New London, #1 and #2. Number one was the Eastbound road freight from Green Bay to East Winona, #2 was the road freight from East Winona to Green Bay. Otherwise there wouldn’t have been much else. There may have been a few more trains back when the GBW ran passenger service, but they only did that up until the 40s or 50s I believe.
