You guys REALLY need to check out HO Yardsale!!!

SHHHH!!! You’ll give away all our secrets!!!

(I watch that list regularly and am a frequent buyer there. [:)] )

You little sneak!![swg][oX)]

That CP Geep is a good looking unit

I told a buddy of mine who is getting into MR to check that site out—it’s a good’un!

I’ve noticed that there are basically two type of sellers in that group. There’s the folks who have some extra items that they’re selling for good prices in order to find a good home for surplus equipement, and a handful of prolific posters who must have warehouses full of stuff that they’re looking to sell at almost full retail.

You need to check it fairly frequently because some things seem to get snatched up as soon as they’re posted. Still, it’s an awesome group. I might have picked up one or two items from it myself… [:-^]

Ditto my brothers. I had looked for over a year for the Walther’s Amtrak station kit with no luck, along with the walther’s oil refinery kits. One post on the site and, voila! Found three of the refinerys and the station from three different sources all for $140.00[:D]. Oh joy, joy!

Gerry S.

Do they have other scales?

No, this one is HO only. There’s a separate Yahoo group for N scale but it’s moderated by a different guy. It’s great for finding stuff you need. Just post a Want To Buy notice. I’ve had 4 guys send me minor parts and not even charge me S&H!!

I’m guessing those are the prolific buyers on go-motorbids who bid on anything and everything hoping to snag a cheap deal. For a while there were so few people on go-motorbids that most items were going for a buck ($1) each.

Is there a link that can be posted? I tried a keyword search and did not find a active site. One I did find did not show any listings.

Cuda Ken

Its a Yahoo! Group. You need to join. Then its essentially a mailing list. You can either read postings on the group site, or have a digest sent to you via email-- that’s what I do. Here’s the url to join:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HOYARDSALE/

If you have a Yahoo! account (it’s free) just enter your info and hit join. If you don’t you need to sign up for the Yahoo! account first. Either way, once you’ve joined, pick your notification option and that’s all there is to it.

…and here’s a “live” link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HOYARDSALE/

Right! Just join! You can opt for a daily Email of what is available. It’s a better bunch of true train guys than you could hope to meet on that E sale thing!!! (I only posted pics of half the stuff I’ve gotten deals on in the last year!) HOYS ROCKS!!!

If I sign up for a Yahoo account, will it take over as my browser? I hate it when things take over when I don’t want it to.

Ken

No, it won’t take over.

I picked up some log cars, a shay, a water tower, and some roundouse/bluebox kits at the local train show.

They’ll probably do their best to CONvince you that you need to download their Yahoo! toolbar or something similar. They might even be sneaky about it-- both Yahoo! and Google frequently are. Just be aware that they might do that and examine your submission carefully and check or un-check any boxes where you either “agree” to let it be installed, or else “don’t mind” if they do.

Aside from that the Yahoo! account is free and everything you do with it will be online and with an un-encumbered browser. I might also add that there are a lot of great Railroad and Model Railroad oriented Yahoo! Groups you can check out. I personally belong to a lot of the PRR-related ones, the Layout Design SIG, The Shelf Layouts group, the JMRI group, several DCC-related groups, etc.

What I don’t have is time to read them all… sigh

John

I’m set up that way as well. I strongly suggest that you set up a separate Yahoo email account to receive the notifications because you will get a TON of emails!

when you sign up for the group there is a selection you can make in your profile to not get the emails from the group. If memmory servs correctly the three choices are to:

Recieve all emails to the group

Recieve emails in a digest form

No emails, read messages on the forum

tick the No emails selection and no emails will be sent

You sign up for the group, no download or installing any software is needed.

Yeah, I’m set up for ‘daily digests’ which on most days works out to about two emails with approx 12-15 emails ‘digested’ (grouped) inside. Occasionally I only get one digest email in a day. Once in awhile more than two. But only ever a few with the ‘daily digest’ method. Its quite tolerable.

The way I have it set up automatically routes it to a separate folder in my Yahoo! mail account.

What I do is create a separate mail folder in my Yahoo! account, and then go to the ‘settings’ section and add a ‘filter’ to direct anything with ‘HOYARDSALE’ in the subject line into the correct folder. Then I just notice whenever I have new mail in that folder. Works great.
