GP 7 B unit... you got one? Show me a pic!

I thought I’d preform some page 5 necromancy on this thread when I found this picture on Fallen Flags today, a BNSF GP9B in heritage paint no less! Acording to The Diesel Shop this engine and it’s sister 1702 are still on the roster. Both units are ex-BN.

Cheers!

Someone posted a SD9B, so I thought it would be good to show mine…

Phil

GP7B is a quite rare animal. GP9B is not so rare. All the PRR ones had controls and could be operated by opening the porthole and sticking your head out to see where you were going. The contorls were used to move them around at engine terminals. IN HO Cannon makes/made a conversion kit for the Athearn engine. It is quite nicley detailed but the roof is too wide for the current models becasue of the increased athearn width. I used one and it was easy to install the sides and cut down the roof to fit on my PRR GP9B. And to answer the question the PRR never had any Sd7 or 9 B units although I have too many and may just do it myself for drag ore and mineral or transfer service.

Bear in mind, however, that all of BN’s cabless hood units were originally standard cab units that BN rebuilt without cabs. UP and PRR had the only factory-built GP9B’s.

Very creative!

Actually, as ndbprr mentions PRR did own and operate a fleet of GP9Bs (“beeps”) that were classed EFS17m. Some made it to Penn Central.

Some made it through PC actually and on to Conrail before being retired in the late-70s and early-80s.

Cheers!
