GP15 question

I was looking at the soo line’s unofficial diesel roster (http://sooline.dieselrosters.com/) and found a picture of a GP15C. The loco appears nearly identical to a standard GP15 except that the roof of the cab extends above the number board a few inches.

Here is a good picture ^^

I can’t tell if the number boards are lowered for some reason or if the entire cab has been raised a few inches. If anyone knows about these locos could the please shed some light on this subject.

Thanks
John

This is not an EMD GP15-1. The information with the picture tells the story. It’s a GP9 rebuilt with a 1500-horsepower Caterpillar engine.

You can tell it is a Geep rebuild by the radiator and other features, a true GP15 is basically a miniature Tunnel motor. That being said, one of my fondest memories is a GP15 pulling a disabled Conrail (now NJTransit) passenger train along its run. Considering the U34CH behind it was twice its size, a very interesting scene.

Thanks guys

Speaking of GP15’s, does anyone know what happened to UP 715 & & 706?
They used to pull the local in Ames, IA.
I haven’t seen them in months.

They probably went to a major terminal for inspection, maintenance, and/or repair and were assigned to somewhere else once that was done.
