I’m trying to build a NJ Transit gp40ph-2 in HO scale. Can anyone help with information on measured scale drawings? Thanks ed
Here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_GP40-based_passenger_diesels , chech that out. Also just a general search on google. I had a lot of photo hits doing that. From what I can tell the GP40PH-2 was based on the GP40P, which was based on the GP40. Now going over that, I can give you some basic specs for the GP40P which are pretty general but should work for both of them. The GP40-2 used AC drive motors, with their own design 645 prime mover which was 3,000 horsepower, 16 cylinders big, 10,320 cubic inches large (or 169.11 Liters if you prefer metric), and spec’d out with a 9 1/16 inch bore (230.1875mm) and 10 inch stroke (254mm), all making 187.5hp/cylinder. They wNow on to the crap you actually wanted to know.
GP40PH’s were rebuilt into the Dash 2’s in 1991-1992, and in '93-'94. The engine was 62 feet 8 inches long (18.9m, 20.32cm), and had Blomberg type B trucks on 37 foot 3 inch (11.28m, 7.62cm) truck centers.
I also came across this:
The photo was taken from webshots.com in “NJT_Chairman” album, a google image search provided the link. I would think because of this photo, and others he has of NJT stuff, and his name, that he would be able to help you out more if you can contact him. That’s all I got. This post has been buggin me since it was posted because I thought it was in my train spotters guide and I kept forgetting to bring it to the internet lab with me. It wasn’t in the guide by the by.
