GP7/9 shells interchangable?

Hi all -

I recently purchased an 8030 GP9 (1972). Would PW shells fit on this?

Hi Don,

I installed a 8353 GP-7 shell (1970’s) on my 2338 PW frame, and they seem to be the same, but a GP-20 shell won’t fit. I speak from experience.

PW repro handrails and lenses fit into my 1970’s shell as well.

The PW shells will fit MPC frames. On the GP-20 issue, I’ve done the GP-20 shell on the PostWar chassis - there are two ways to do it:

  • use a MPC era brushplate - part # 8010-139 in place of the original

or

  • do it my way & cut/file the brushplate to match the profile of the 8010-139 brushplate.

And then file some more(with either method) to fit. The brass brush holders and the armature will come very close to the “ledge” of the hood at the base of the windshields, but will not contact it under operating conditions.

I did this several years ago with an LTI GP-20 shell on a 2328 repainted chassis.
