GP9 Wide cab?

Does anyone know the history of this unit, how many were built and if they are still around. I would like to build one do you guys have more pictures of this unit and also what cab is that?

lol…cute, I say the cab is possibly Details West[:D]??? Sorry, but the thick handrails give it away, good job though[tup].

try Kaslo shops. they are a Canadian company that makes a wide cab for CP engines.

Looks like Kadee has entered the 1:1 market now.[;)]

That is an actual image of the real engine it’s not a model.

…Anything is possible with photo work these days, but it sure has features of a model to me.

There’s something fishy going on here…

I looked up pics of the loco on railpictures.net and every pic showed CP Rail 8238 as a chop-nose GP-9, not a wide cab. Here’s a link to an example.

The photo doesn’t match other pics but it doesn’t look like a model to me. My best bet is it’s a really good photoshop.

here is where I found it, it says it was a CP experiment

That appears to be a model railroad site. I would venture to guess that CP never spent the money necessary to drop a late model safety cab on a beat-up 1st generation loco.

Ah, its from Bob Boudreau. That explains it. His username is “railphotog” here. He normally hangs out on the MR forums it seems.

On the website linked to above there is a chart below the photo listing scale as 1:1. This is getting real confusing.[%-)]

…Still say, at least part of that image is a model.

Nothing too terribly confusing. This unit appearantly started it’s life off as an Athearn GP-9. The trucks are almost certainly Athearn. And as noted before, unless CP experimented with 3" diameter handrails…

Look at the hood doors and hand rails, and that coupler on the front. Still think it’s real?

We’re about a month and a half early for this!

[8D] Has anybody seen the sharknose GP9?

That’s a model???[:O]

Wow, I’m very impressed! Maybe we could have a little insight from Railphotog here?

Thats a model. Check out the plate covering the step out of the rear of the firemans side. It is obiviouly a sepearate piece - you can even see the impression of the pin used to press it in the body shell below and to the left of the handrail stanchion. The couplers and unnatural straighness of the MU hoses also give it away.

Not criticising - I wish my loco’s looked that good!

You can fool some of the people, some of the time, but, you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. I’m no idiot, you’ve posted an obvious fraud.

Good try.

It does look alot like a model. The gap behind the cab really giives it away, but if you look closely, you can also faintly see the decal film around the lettering. The radiator grilles also don’t look airy enough. It is definitely a really nice model though. The weathering on the trucks is especially good.
