Grab Iron Placemenrt Templates

Trying to finish detailing on old Ambroid car kit and need to place grab irons for car side ladder. Does anyone know of an available template for spacing HO scale grab irons on car sides and ends. Think Cody G may have mentioned such a template but I never caught a supplier.

BLMA, which is now owned by Atlas. Not sure if they are really available though.

I have the BLMA #4500 grabiron drill templates for 15’‘, 18’‘, 20’’ & 21’’ grabs. If this is what you may be looking for. Sometimes it is faster to make your own templates out of thin brass sheet.

Thank, Henry. The BLMA template is what I had in mind but not sure they exist anywhere. May make one from brass shim stock. I do have the Ambroid plans to work off of for spacing.

Atlas website indicates they are available;

Tichy offers such a template with their boxcar kits, but I’ve found it just as easy to use a set of dividers to lightly scribe lines for the vertical alignment, then reset them and simply “walk” them up the lines for the correct grabiron spacing.

I have always had good results using the template included with the Tichy boxcar kits. It is spaced for 18" grabirons.

Yarmouth Models makes an A+ 100% Perfectly Awesome drilling guide for placing Kadee bracket style grab irons on the left side of boxcars. This is a great must-have tool.

Thanks Maxman for the link. The template is on order. Will post a picture when the car is finished.
