Does anyone suggest a particular 3’ or so “grabber” that might be used to retrieve unreachable derailed freight cars when the operator forgets to check a turnout position? My layout is a bit too deep to access all track from the front, and while it’s not hard to roll away from the wall, a grabber that could be used on simpler freight cars (not fancy ones with fragile details) might be handy for some cases. Lots of them on Amazon but if someone’s found one they especially like I’d give that a try. Thanks.
Be sure the one you purchase has cushioned jaws so you don’t damage your rolling stock. Many stores sell grabbers, which are marketed primarily to the handicapped to help them retrieve canned goods off pantry shelves.
I have two that I can use. One is a ‘Grabber’ that I picked up at Wal-Mart. It has two small rather stiff cups on the end. The other is a ‘Grip n Grab’ that I picked up at Lowe’s. It has two three inch rubber jaws that can be set to close horizontally or vertically. In my opinion it’s the better of the two. It’s too easy for stuff to slip out of the Wal-Mart one.
