CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS ON ADDING A GRADE CROSSING? THIS WOULD BE IN A 42 AND 54 CURVE ON LIONEL TUBULAR TRACK THANKS
First of all Welcome!
Now…what type of crossing are you looking for?
Flat, raised, paved city street, rural road, cow path?
Crossbuck, wigwag, overhead, or lowering gate. Post War, or prototypical?
Sorry to sound like the lady at the Deli counter from Mr. Mom, give us your best shot and we’ll do the best we can.
Kurt
I measure the top of the tie to the top of the rail to be 3/8" on my old tubular track. You can get Balsa in 1/4" w x 1/16" d for the top (12" x 3" scale), build the base out of 1/4" balsa or masonite, so you have a built up total of 7/16", and 1/16" of clearance for the wheels. You’ll need to do some trial and error on the flange clearance widths around the curves. You can shim the final pieces to get them to sit higher.
I have used Minwax water base wood stain American Walnut, as a good color to mimic railroad ties.

thank you very helpfull
Catd, Welcome. [#welcome] I see you are a REB from NC. What part are you from. I’m in Rolesville. Just north of Raleigh. We are the FASTEST growing Town in NC [two years in a row]. Come visit the coffee pot and let us get to know you. I try to carry as many bags of GRITS to these Yanks that I can. Sometimes they block me. Most of the time I win. [(-D]
Serious, glad to have you.
