Can someone make a recommendation on a good, working grade crossing gate and signals that are somewhat prototypical. I have no gates and I use Model Power signals at present just to enhance the looks and to have some type of “working” signal.
One of these days. There is a grade crossing in Melrose MA, Wyoming Ave, just a main street crossing a two track commuter line. It has four cross bucks with flashers, four automatic gates, and each gate has half a dozen blinking red lights on it. It made the best cheery, red, blinking, light show in the world. Never seen a commercial model that fancy. Probably much be scratch built. Go the whole route and splurge on a $20 Tortoise to run the gates up and down smoothly.
The Grade Crossing Pro from Logic Rail Technologies as the controller, and crossbucks from Tomar Industries or NJ International. A Tortoise switch motor can be used to lower and raise the crossing gates, and GCP had this capability built in.
In N, I have flashing signals and scale crossing gates, though they are separate pieces, from NJ International. Their stuff is scaled exactly and looks great. I know there are ways to get everything running properly and even make the gates automatic, but I am not that advanced yet.
Stay away from the grade crossing that work by pushing down on a piece of plastic, these of course have been around for years but aren’t really good for anything.
