This past Wednesday I counted 6 BNSF Grain trains through Steilacoom WA on the BNSF Seattle sub.
Here’s a shot of last one that I’m pretty happy with. Hope you enjoy it!

Nice ! No - Wonderful !! This isn’t just railroad photography - it’s art !!!
I particularly like the effect of the setting sun reflecting off the side of the train and highlighting it - that makes it really stand out from the background. Probably better than even if it was being directly lit by a full sun, because I’ll bet those grain cars are painted an unexciting dull gray or similar color, right ? So this is better than the original, so to speak. As RWM noted in the “Stunning Fall Colors” thread, there are a lot of angles to be explored that are not the same old tired cliches.
This reminds me of an idea to see if someone has or can get a similar photo emphasizing the wheels and rails - more about that sometime later.
Finally, do you know what the bird is that looks like it’s taking off, in the bottom right beyond the bridge ?
Thanks for sharing - again, very, very nice !
Is it a bird, or a fish jumping?
Nice shot!
…That is a nice photo. Different.
Lots of grain traveling thru here now too…Headed east, southeast, I suppose to export on NS.
Carl…Maybe a “flying fish”…That might cover it all.
Thanks for the comments.
The bird was just a gull that flew out from under the bridge when the train arrived.
