Its a shame, I am glad she still runs don’t get me wrong but I miss the old days where she ran everyday during the summer.
It appears GCRY takes as much pride in not running steam ( i.e. for the environment) than it does running steam. Nonetheless, this operation is first class.
Maybe they’re trying to ration the time 'cause the eng is coming up against the dreaded 1470-whatever amount of days inspection and maintenance
Reclaimed rain/snow melt is a new one! Water other sort of water is there. (groundwater yes but really, what sort of reporting is this)
Francis Carlin, the locomotive had a 1472 inspection completed in 2012. They ration the days they operate 4960 due to the operating expenses involved. I once had a discussion with the locomotive manager there about using up stream days, and he said that even if they ran the same steam locomotive every day under the old schedule (Memorial Day to Labor Day), they would still hit the 15 year restriction long before they achieved 1,472 operating days. Steam-up days are the least of their concerns.
