Just this evening on the local news. Out at Hastings,Neb. a BNSF Coal Train Derails dumping over 300 TONS of Coal on the ground. Ya well you can be sure that Amtrak 5 West is gona spend the night in Lincoln tonight. Allan.
300 tons? Seems like they could have that cleaned up pretty quick and not delay #5 at all.
You forget that the railroads have dumbsized themselves into being reliant on contractors like Hulcher (their nearest base is at Sidney, old Filsinger). Roadmaster, Mechanical Supervisor and Division Engineer in for a long night. Hope it was not between Hastings and GH (bottleneck).
The old CB&Q was redundant through here (3 parallel E-W routes), no longer true. Amtrak detours can be interesting.

Well the UPRR rearender in May west of Clinton NE must have dumped almost 1000 tons on the ground because there was at least 10 cars involved. [:o)][:p][:)]
