Grand Trunk Western Steam Engine

Does anyone make a GTW steam engine in HO scale.

I sure can’t find any.

Thanks.

Rich

Which engine(s)? Trueline Trains recently produced/are about to produce a CN 4-8-4 that might be a good base for kitbashing, but those engines are well beyond what some used brass engines are going for. Otherwise, it is likely to be brass or USRA designs in plastic if the GTW used such engines.

The GTW used both USRA light Pacifics and Mikados. Even if you can’t find any decorated for GTW, that’s a start. Here’s a link to some prototype photos. http://www.railarchive.net/rlsteam/gtw.htm IIRC, GTW also had USRA 0-6-0’s.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. I have been looking for a 4-8-4 which was the workhorse of the GTW stable. I am amazed that no one produces the GTW roadname in any type of steam engine wheel configuration.

Hi Rich

Two other resources are the GTW hysterical…oops,[:D] historical society based in the old Durand depot in Michigan. I’m pretty sure you can access their roster lists. Also, in addition to the photo center already suggested, try northeast.railfan.net as a source for photos. I have a pal that is a walking encyclopedia on GTW steam and all his steamers are brass. Good Luck Gerry S.

Wow, great photos. Thanks for the link, Andre.

Those photos make me want a GTW steamer more than ever. As a kid living in Chicago, we were five houses away from the GTW line. Whenever I heard the whistle blowing in the distance at a grade crossing, I would race out of the house and down to the end of the block to watch those monsters go flying by. My mother would race out to the back yard to pull the laundry off the line before the soot from the smokstack reached the yard.
