on their family layout. There is a double circle with crossover for continuous looping operation. It got a little exciting when the two trains approached the crossing from the two separate circles, posing the possibility of a crash.

That’s the way to grow the hobby! Get him involved now, then, he will forget about it once he discovers either girls or cars; but leave it to him when you kick off, and he’ll come back to it!
Interesting, your comment about willing it to him… About two weeks ago, I let him pick out which of my locos he would want to have if “something were to happen to Papa.” He chose and was granted [on my demise] the Railbus. For that reason, I took it over to my daughter’s house to run with the critter. The other two grandkids were also delighted.
