I cannot locate a Grandt Line 7091 (HO standard GA) 25 Ton End Cab Engine
to match a particular prototype, but I have located a 7090 (HOn3). Does
anyone know (or have done) if the narrow ga can be converted to standard ga?
I would be using the powered model (Mabuchi power unit).
You would probably have to modify the underside considerably, and replacing the HOn3 axles with HO would be a royal bear–you’d be better off adding your own after-market power truck. I’d love to get one of the standard-gauge Grandt Line 25 tonners too–there’s one in town I want to model!
You could always use a NWSL PDT or other commercial power truck of correct size to replace the power unit in the Grandt Line kit–just move the sideframes a bit farther out.
I suspect they will be available again in the future. When stock runs out, Grandt can’t always do a new run of everything right away. Patience, patience.
Check ebay or advertise in the Wanted sections of the usual hobby rags. ANYTHING is better than what you’re planning. Again, patience.
Thanks for the answers, guys. I think you have affirmed my suspcions that the conversion would be an exercise in frustration.
I found an HO gauge model at a metro hobby shop I had never visted before
last week. Patience does pay off. To Jetrock1: There is one of these currently
listed on Ebay if you want one for your modelling project. Thanks again guys!
Thanks for the eBay heads-up: good luck with your 25 tonner!
