Hey, just wondering I have seen graphite type lubricants on many of the RR product sites and I wondered, I just bought some for my wife’s car, the key was sticking. Anyway is the graphite lube from let’s say a Checker auto the same graphite lube you would buy from woodland scenics or others?
Please advise.

I will go out on a limb… As far as “I” know they are pretty much the same. I had a little jar of the stuff, and used it wherever it was needed, whether it was in locks, etc…
Graphite is graphite. I use it on my rolling stock axles and it works great. Little bit of a pain in the butt, but worth it. I remove the axles, squirt some into the pocket and pack it in with a broken off tooth pick to get most of it to stay.
As long as the medium in which it is suspended (and delivered) is compatible with plastics, you should be fine. I would personally use Molybdenum-sulphide lube if I could get it in a medium that was plastic friendly.
loathar,
I have a question about using graphite on the axles. My dad used to use it all the time, but since he passed away years ago, I can’t ask him. Since graphite is somewhat abrasive, is there a danger of scaring the pockets and making the axles wobble on the trucks? I’ve used graphite on my son’s pinewood derby car and it definately leaves scratches on the inside of the wheel hubs. Just curious if it does the same to model railroad car trucks.
Thanks
