I beleive some of us know the Piermont Division layout of Mister Howard Zaine which was faetured in Model Railroader twice. (last in 2004).
The layout is a great one, around 2850 square feet with a magnificient scenery with a unique style of building set in the appalachian.
Mister Zane had accomplished a wonderful work like the late John Allen which is his master.
He had the same thinking as me about trains; we both beleive modeling train is a sort of art which is not appreciated as it could be, because to much people beleive it’s toy playing.
I could only invite you to read his book and discover his train and his sense of humor. There is also some trick about building scenery which are easy, simple and fast to use and look great.
I always like to see a picture of your wonderful Maclau River RR in N scale. How can we persuade you to write up an article about it to be published in MR?
It’s an often asked question; why I don’t make an article about my Maclau River?
First I beleive I didn’t have enough matter to do it; port is finished but the steam terminal is incomplete and town is just growing up. But don’t be sad it’s a project I hope to do in a near future.
Second and more important, I am on the way to move it and work hard to prepare this move and his future new room.
I am also working hard at a new track plan for the future expansion.
This new plan is only sketch and ideas but day after day I am going to a something like coal line in the Appalachian traveling trhought the hills between mine camps.
As the book of Mister Zane show on his Piermont Division, that’s offer me the challenge to make differents mines, differents depot and different looking camps.
I am in the stage of building a large yard which will prepare trains for the line; the line is divised in two division, a climbing one and the other running along the famous Maclau River.
Join is picture of the the main sketch which depict the around the wall and peninsula concept. The hills on the peninsula serve as backdrop and divider. Estimated main line run is something around 122 meters or an around 370 feet in Nscale or a 12/13 scale miles.
The along the wall and the peninsula are somewhat narrow because I will use a lot of vertical scenery which are faster to build and keep the trains as tiny things in the big nature.
Track will be only Micro Engenering code 55 with Fastrack homebuild turnouts, 8 for the main and 6 for the spurs and yard. Control is DCC by Lenz.
I hope to finish the railroad in a 15/20 years building but I want to finish to lay track as
