This is a result of HS2- I used to go to this pub whenever I was in London, the last time was shortly before it closed for good. A shame, it had an amazing real ale selection. Casks on hand pump and casks on stillage. Every day was like a real ale festival.

Took a 125 from London to Bristol to Bath to London back in the late 70s. Nothing wrong with it at all. 40+ years later, and we can’t match that here in the US today.
The biggest difference between Britain and Canada/USA is that railways are a much bigger part of people’s lives. You can get almost anywhere in Britain by train, the Beeching cutbacks notwithstanding. People over there complain about the service but I think what they have is amazing. I took a train from London Waterloo to the town of Ford (near Brighton) where there is a great model train shop called The Engine Shed. I was a bit worried at first about when the next train back will be. When I got back to the station I saw that there is a return train every fifteen minutes. I compare that with the train I took from Saratoga Springs, New York to NYP a few years ago. Two trains a day, that’s it.
