“NORTHERN” A word that does not seem to make sense in Canada, most population in Canada is within 200 miles of the U.S. border which, geographically is in the south. So the word “SOUTHERN” would be practical, there is an awful lot of land to the “NORTH” in Canada where there are no railways, yet people seem to think 45 miles north of Toronto is in Canada’s north, the railway to Churchill, Manitoba is a bit north and even Fort Nelson B.C. is slightly north, look at a map and there is a LOT of land north of these two points, I’ve even heard people refer to Vancouver B.C. located in the Pacific North West, that would be located in the Pacific South West to be correct.

People living in the NORTH ( north of 60) must cringe when southerners refer to anything above Saskatoon as the “NORTH” remember, cities like Seattle are really in the North West (of the United States)

Now if you have a railway from Tuktoyaktuk to Kugluktuk then down to Yellowknife it may qualify as a “NORTHERN RAILWAY” Just a comment- - - - (now let’s get out our atlas)

I got to see Arnie’s layout when I was in Winnipeg for model railroad convention a few years ago. Very nice layout.

True 'nuff about north vs. south, but we Canadians have always thought of ourselves as living in the Great White North–even if most of us live close to the U.S. border and there are parts of Canada that are south of the 49th parallel (the western U.S.-Canadian border).

Anyway, I’ve added more photos of the Northland Route to my blog: http://cprailmmsub.blogspot.ca/2012/07/more-northland-route-great-canadian.html
