Great Jan 2010 Issue

Got my January issue. Loved reading the Fiddletown and Great Divide by David Markowitz. The writing style and background on the “why” of the railroad, along with some fun (connundrium ore?) was refreshing. I hope to see more articles on this one as the building progresses.

The River Scene by Ken Kirkwood was timely as well. Since I need something similar to cross a window (by direction of the local authorities who object to a mountain in front of the window), the article is on the money.

I like the F&GD because it has the John Allen type funnies incorporated into everything.

Sweet. If only I had received my copy…

This really upsets me! Some people get their issues earlier than others. It sometime spoils it for the rest of us when those early recipients start dicussing the contents of the latest issue. When we finally get our issue, it often seems like it’s already been read! That sure takes a lot of fun out of it!

So let’s not talk about an issue until EVERYBODY gets theirs! Okay? Huh? What? Oh, don’t open the thread if you don’t want to spoil it for yourself? Hey! What a great idea!

Never mind!

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

OH----and do not be having anyone get critical on anything on this thread-----it might end up disappearing-----like another certain thread did this morning-----[%-)][:-^]

Ditto.

But then I ALWAYS expect my December and January copies to be late due to the heavy Christmas influx of mail and parcels. I don’t like it when I have to wait for my MRR, [banghead] [B)] but I do understand why [(-D] and it’s NOT the fault of our Hosts here on these Forums.

If it’s not here by the week AFTER it’s on the newsstands, I will send off a query by Email to Kalmbach.

Blue Flamer.

[V]I´m in Germany-but I must wait -every issue is a cake for me-an inspiration for my fantasy-I hope the postman bring 0110 tomorrow-or must I wait to NICOLAUS(December the Sixth)-you all in the U.S.-did you know the man?

He brings all the good children candy[tup]…

I recieved mine late last week, but haven’t had a chance until yesterday to look at it…the first thing I noticed was that it was on the page light side. It’s something that jumps out at you…oh for the good 'ol days when every issue looked like the 75th Anniversary …sigh…

The Salt Lake Route project is one that I’ll follow being and N-scaler. Mr. Sperandeo, if you’e reading this post, that was a nice sound conversion; you make it look so easy. Above and beyond that, I’ll keep quiet as to not spoil it for those who haven’t recieved their copy yet.

I have read the Salt Lake Route 3 times already today. As an N-Scaler with limited space the just barely 4 by 9 foot is a great series and work of art! Yes, I model the east coast, but I would love to model this layout design and incorporate it to run somewhere in pennsy with my NS and Conrail units. Maybe Ill invest in an Amtrak p42 and some amfleet or superliners to model the pennsylvanian or lake shore limited. Great Job MRR! Way to start out the 2010 season.

It was excellent, one of the best ones I’ve seen in a while. The SLR article was excellent! It provided me with tons of inspiration, even though I model an eastern shortline in HO.

Better check with your mail carrier. He may be reading your issue. LOL

One day this week the Blondie cartoon was about the same thing. May had been some Golf mags…lol

All I want to know is why MRR mag’s price keeps going up and the mag keeps getting thinner and thinner. Sure miss those tomes they used to put out from yester year. (You know, the ones with the red ink layout diagrams) Now those were magazines!..chuck

I’ve been really pleased with the last three issues. Each had featured a wide variety of article topics, and several article have been very timely in terms of my current layout progress. Yes, I wish there were more pages so the various subjects could be covered in greater depth, but I understand and accept the reasons for this. So, if Neil, Andy, David and/or Cody sees this, please keep up the good work!

ssssshhhhh---- not too loud here— some threads have disappeared regarding these things–

Heck, I haven’t even seen a copy on the newstands for months now, not sure why. It sucks I had to give up my subscription due to no employment.

Tom

I have been a subscriber since 1974, and hate to play devil’s advocate here, but I haven’t seen a GREAT issue of Model Railroader in several years. Most of the columns, and many of the articles have become very regimented how-to lessons, that do nothing to inspire the reader to think outside of the box. First, do this…then, do that…next, do this…and you too can mke a model railroad, but no thinking on your own is recommended.

Now along comes the Jan. 2010 issue with an article titleded “DON"T FINISH THAT PROJECT”. So not only is the reader instructed exactly what to do, he is now being instructed what not to do as well.

I may be in the minority here, but I don’t like the path the magazine has taken. Thankfully there are other Kalmbach publications like “Great Model Railroads” where I can get some true inspiration.
