I just looked at the new video by Kelly Shaw and Bob Keller for the Hogwarts Express. I think its a very good idea to create this video for people interseted in the set (from which I hear is alot). Good discription for the goods and bads of the set.
If you would like to view it, you must be a CTT subscriber and the link is: Hogwarts Express
I’ll have to agree with you there. I think they are more for showing the detail of the drivers and pistons, ect. But maybe the video was too long and they decided not to put it running? IDK, all the other videos have whatever is shown running on a loop of track.
I bet it was so they could apply max voltage to get that smoke unit pumping good. That train would’ve flown off the 40X60 track at the speeds he was running on that base. I also would’ve preferred to see it running on the track. But great video anyways; I can’t wait to see one running on someone’s Harry Potter themed layout!
The roller base is an import from Germany - the base and three-rail power connections are fixed and the rollers are connected to the base, and you adjust them to suit your wheel arrangement. We’ve been using them on and off (mostly steam but a few diesel reviews) since the early part of the year.
Unlike the running videos, we shot this in the company video studio. While it does have two high-end cameras, it doesn’t have room to set up a layout and is an additional cost to use (versus the virtually free cost of our shooting in the workshop - we shoot it, I edit it, and the studio configures it for the web server).
So if I wanted to get’er going to show the smoke, the only option was the roller system.
