We went out on a tour of some garden railroads today and my wife was completly hooked by the second one. WE have a very large side yard to play with, about 100’x125’ of open area. She said she would like to have a runnign railroad up by this time next year.
AS a confirmed three railer, i will be here lurking and reading as much as i can on this hobby. I allready know i want steam, so a shay is in my future. I plan on baterry power, so i can not have to worry about cleaning all that track. LOL
So keep the posts coming, i’ll be here reading them, and asking questions as they come up.
Thanks Bill
Bill, way to go!
At least your missis WANTS a garden RR…and you have a good sized area to boot.
Vic, do I sense a little envy?[:D]

Let me know when you ask your wife about that loan you will need for the trains [:D][;)]

thats great a spouse that wants trains. my former wife died of C she thought it was stupid. my wife now is for trains no more sneaking [:)]
Cool Billl [:)]
I was never able to get the (now ex) wife to warm up to the trains, but my girlfriend DOES like the trains and we’ve even started a private road of purple trains to go with the ACL pieces I’ve bought her [;)] I’m actually just getting to fini***he first boxcar in the “Lion -n- Peach” RR. We presently have a L&P 40’ gondola, 40’ flatcar and a Aristo bobber caboose done up in the custom purple color with a custom herald on the caboose which the boxcar is getting also.
I believe it’s important to give your wife or significate some trains so that she can enjjoy the fun too [:)][^]
Rocky,
That came out sooo great, logo and all! [^]
Bill
My wife completely supports my Garden Railway, including helping with whatever she can.
But I’m very proud how she promotes and invites people round to see the evolving dream. (very slow)
I too one day would love to run live steam.
Currently I,m setting up my system to run batteries (no cleaning probs) with Locolinc radio.
Hopefully this weekend I can test my first loco on a small section of completed track.
All the best
Gary
Gary that is great that things are coming together and the wife will love it when it runs!
Showed my mother for the first time other day and she had a smile from ear to ear [^]
Does this mean she’s coming around? Does she “Get It” now?
Well, I was using the bachmann track that came with set so I can kitbash it and the track as normal is what they call “steel” and to me is [censored] track.
Now it sliped that Santa “might” bring some Aristo-Craft Trains w/Track, if so this means the track will be alot better and can give a better run around the oval. [:D] [;)]
That means you have been a good boy this year, if not you can use the coal as hopper load or in your tender. good or bad it works well for the RR either way[;)]
I am looking for passanger speed trains and diesel.
I have many other styles bachmann and charles ro 40’s ones
Hooking your wife can be good news - And it can be bad news. My significant other seems to come up with suggestions at about five times the rate that I can build them.
Moving around living room furniture is one thing but have you ever had the suggestion that a one ton rock would “Would look better over there” [?][xx(]
I think my wife will “come around” once I have a suitable garden and layout, but I shan’t hold my breath that she will any day soon be an active participant.

Man I know that feeling [B)]
My wife helps all the time with my Garden Railway, she specialises in deorative stones and gravel; also in arguing with me when we are bending rail.
However it is somteimes a two edged sword, I have now got 4 spans of my viaduct in place true and correct, it looks just so goodf; and she is pushing me to get another 4 spans done and has actually set me an agenda and timetable. My viaduct will be to G Scale 350 mm or 14" high and 4 m or 13’ long with 13 to 16 spans, so its a big job.
