Great Northern pictures on railpictures.net

Marty Bernard has posted some pictures of Great Northern equipment on RP.net. If you start 4 or 5 pages back and run backwards they are mixed in. The pictures were taken in the 60s it would appear.

Those are some nice shots!

Especially interesting is the down-on shot of the NW2. It’s painted in the simplified scheme, and it appears to me that the orange, as it passes over the curves from the sides to the top, is curving to form the typical GN “point”. But it also looks like the whole roof grill area is orange–contrary to what one would expect. At least, this one.

Those are some neat engine photos of the ‘simplified scheme’. I always liked those colors better than the original GN diesel paint for some reason. Pity it was only around for like what, five years before the switch to blue and white.
